I’m Julie Braithwaite, a clinical psychologist with extensive clinical experience working with adults, adolescents and families in public and private health settings. I work within a family systems framework with an attachment focus.
As a therapist I offer a warm, supportive, professional environment to help clients better understand their life challenges and how they may navigate them to live healthy, meaningful and satisfying lives.
Treatment is tailored to the individual needs of each client using a collaborative, non-judgemental, flexible approach.
Therapeutic Approach
I believe in therapy being interactive, open, genuine and collaborative.
I am trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and attachment-based family therapies.
I have also been trained in numerous other therapeutic approaches which I integrate according to individual client need.

My 20 years working with adolescents in crisis and their families at the Child Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) Royal North Shore Hospital has provided in-depth experience in managing complex mental health presentations. With a special interest in treating anxiety and reducing emotional suffering, I was director of the anxiety clinic 7-14yo group program and group leader for the parent DBT group program. Consistent with my strong commitment to professional development I supervised clinical psychology Interns, CYMHS Clinicians and, as required, acted as clinical lead.

My 15 years working with adult clients in private practice has provided experience in treating a wide range of issues causing distress, unhappiness and feeling overwhelmed. Issues such as anxiety (including perfectionism and obsessions), stress, mood difficulties, depression, relationship issues and trauma. Some clients have sought support for a lack of meaning in their life, or they feel 'stuck' and have little motivation or purpose.
In my spare time I enjoy catching up with my family and friends, and hanging out with my much loved Labrador, Ellie.
Not one to be bound by stereotypes or convention I also enjoy wicked humour, playing tournament poker, being a DIY instant expert and creative writing.
